Trump Administration Releases Transparency Rules for Hospitals and Insurers

On Friday November 15, the Trump administration released a set of rules aimed at increasing transparency in the hospital and health insurance industries. A proposed rule targeting both exchange and employer-sponsored health plans would require insurers to disclose their negotiated rates with providers, as well as patient cost-sharing information. Additionally, the administration finalized its hospital transparency rule requiring all U.S. hospitals to post an annual list of all standard charges, including a consumer-friendly display for at least 300 “shoppable services.”
