With great pleasure, Eyman Associates announces the elevation of its long-time senior attorneys, Sarah Mutinsky and Eva Johnson, to Principal, alongside founding Principal, Barbara Eyman. Over the last decade, Sarah and Eva have helped to build the firm’s unique and robust health law and policy practice, providing our clients with specialized, experienced legal counsel and advocacy consistent with the quality and integrity at the heart of our firm. Their promotion marks the opening of the next chapter in the firm’s trajectory, guided by an ongoing commitment to supporting clients in transforming the health care system and making its benefits accessible to all.
Sarah Mutinsky co-founded Eyman Associates alongside Barbara Eyman in 2011 and has practiced law since 2006, including prior experience at the firms of Powell Goldstein and then Ropes & Gray. Over that time, Sarah has developed a deep knowledge of our clients’ unique missions, circumstances, and legal and policy challenges—an institutional history that she brings to bear in an ever-evolving health care regulatory and legal context. She has been deeply involved in the transformation and evolution of critical federal programs of relevance to our clients, including: the regulatory evolution of Medicaid reimbursement and financing rules and their practical implementation across states; the innovative use of Medicaid waiver and other authorities to solve specific client challenges and support new programs to improve the lives of patients; the nuances of the 340B Drug Pricing Program; as well as other federal programs targeting support to clients, such as federally qualified health centers, children’s hospitals, and teaching hospitals. Her practice requires a sophisticated understanding of developments in Congress, federal agencies, the courts, and the states.
Eva Johnson joined Eyman Associates in 2013 and has practiced law since 2007, first at Ropes & Gray. Eva brought to the firm deep experience in regulatory compliance and has built on that expertise to counsel the firm’s clients as they navigate dynamic and often unclear federal health care program requirements, particularly related to complex Medicaid financing rules and federal reimbursement programs. Consistent with our firm’s commitment to thoughtfulness and integrity, our clients rely on Eva for balanced assessments of compliance risk and implementable strategies grounded in deep technical knowledge. Eva also routinely advises the firm’s academic medical center and teaching provider clients, helping them structure and fund graduate medical education programs, including through Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Hospitals Graduate Medical Education program. As the pandemic exacerbated already significant workforce shortages, Eva has established a unique expertise in structuring non-traditional affiliations and training programs to broaden opportunities for non-physician workforce development. Eva also regularly partners with outside litigation counsel to provide substantive program knowledge in complex healthcare litigation.
Sarah and Eva are regarded as expert resources to clients as well as other attorneys and associations. Eyman Associates’ and our clients are well served by the shared and complementary expertise they bring to the firm. Sarah and Eva are excited to join Barbara in leading the firm into its second decade.
